'N' Gauge Society - West Sussex Area Group

There are three vacancies on the committee.
Michael Shillabeer has resigned as Webmaster due to personal constraints. While Paul Churchill is assisting with technical matters, we really need someone to drive forward the refresh and redevelopment of the website's content. This is not, therefore, a technical role, more of an editorial role.

Alan Reed has suffered some ill-health of late and has indicated that he wants to make 2017 his last year as Treasurer. Therefore, we are looking for someone to takeover on committee from Alan during 2017 as part of a phased handover of knowledge and responsibilities.

Gill Reed (Alan's wife) is stepping down as Shop manager, and given Alan's recent health issues, she would like to make this sooner rather than later. As you will be aware, the Shop has been a major undertaking in the past, but plans are in place to reduce the workload through better use of technology and process, and only selling Society products. It requires a large single garage-sized secure storage facility to house the NGS stocks (including plates and transfers). The time for one person is estimated to be at least 1 full day (8-10 hours) a week of manual labour (picking, packing, going to post office, counting) and 4-5 hours of administration (raising invoices, matching cash to invoices, dealing with email queries etc). If you feel that you would be interested in one of these roles or that you can assist in any way, please email volunteer@ngaugesociety.com.

N Gauge Society 50th Anniversary Exhibition 2017

Plans to hold an anniversary weekend on 13th and 14th May 2017 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the N Gauge Society have been postponed.
It had been hoped to organise a weekend event in conjunction with the Great Central Railway (GCR) featuring a model railway exhibition, unlimited travel on the GCR, and an evening meal on the GCR dining train. It has became apparent that arrangements and contacts with the GCR that were believed to have been in place were not actually so, significantly a location for the exhibition. Despite last minute attempts to find an alternative venue in the vicinity of the GCR, the committee felt that the lack of a confirmed location at this stage was too great a risk. The committee are continuing to look at options and other locations, including a tie-in with another preserved railway or an existing event. An event in summer 2017 is desirable, although once again, this does not leave much time to organise. Therefore, the committee are also considering moving the event to Spring 2018, being mindful of conflicts with other significant model railway shows in late 2017.

It is appreciated that this postponement will be a disappointment to many members, but it is entirely due to reasons beyond the control of the management committee. As and when plans for the rescheduled event become known, they will be published on the Society website and the next available

The next NGS AGM will be hosted by the Northern Lincolnshire Area Group and will be held on Saturday 6th May at Cleethorpes Memorial Hall, Cleethorpes, North East Lincolnshire, DN35 BAH
